Parliament and State
Assembly Monitoring
Holding leaders accountable –
tracking LGBTQ discourse.
LGBTQ+ issues are frequently discussed in Parliament and State Assembly by the members of Parliament (MP) and state assembly persons or Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN).
In Malaysia, LGBTQ issues are frequently discussed in Parliament and State Assemblies. Unfortunately, these discussions often involve degrading language, with parliamentary standards not being enforced, even in extreme cases.
Over the past two decades, parliamentary discourse has focused on themes such as:
- Increased regulation of social media and criminalisation of LGBTQ people
- Support for LGBTQ rehabilitation programmes
- Restricting LGBTQ-related events and gatherings
JFS has compiled a collection of Hansard records and written responses from Parliament and State Assemblies concerning LGBTQ people, highlighting the need for more respectful and informed discussions.
