      • As a UN member state, Malaysia takes part in several periodic treaty-based and voluntary human rights reviews. Through these procedures, Malaysia has come under international attention for human rights violations and marginalisation, particularly of LGBTIQ+ people.

        There are 9 human rights treaties. The implementation of each treaty is monitored by a group of experts. For example, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) is monitored by the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).

        Voluntary National Review (VNR) - Sustainable Development Goals

        The UN SDGs refer to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – a set of 17 goals and 169 targets agreed upon by the United Nations member states in 2015. These goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. The goals include elements such as eliminating hunger and improving access to quality education and healthcare, as well as promoting gender equality and reducing inequality both within and between countries.
