Your child and bullying experiences
Young people in Malaysia are at high risk of bullying. Often, they find themselves being questioned or blamed by a society that invalidates their experiences, and finding access to supportive anti-bullying resources are limited.
Bullying culture is not a mere rite of passage that will resolve with time or indifference—it is caused by existing social inequities and stigma such as racism, sexism, classism or more, leading to identity-based bullying.
Because of these inequalities, people can be targeted simply because of their identity and characteristics [e.g. appearance, race, culture, gender expression, gender identity, language, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, among other identities].
The myth-busting resource is meant to help students, like yourself, to:
- understand, identify and name experiences of bullying as a form of harmful act, abuse or violence.
- use this as a resource to champion or even create youth and survivor centered anti-bullying prevention and intervention strategies in schools.
