Resource: A Guide for Young People to Combat Bullying
July 15, 2025

Your child and bullying experiences

Young people in Malaysia are at high risk of bullying. Often, they find themselves being questioned or blamed by a society that invalidates their experiences, and finding access to supportive anti-bullying resources are limited.

Bullying culture is not a mere rite of passage that will resolve with time or indifference—it is caused by existing social inequities and stigma such as racism, sexism, classism or more, leading to identity-based bullying.

Because of these inequalities, people can be targeted simply because of their identity and characteristics [e.g. appearance, race, culture, gender expression, gender identity, language, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, among other identities].

The myth-busting resource is meant to help students, like yourself, to:

  • understand, identify and name experiences of bullying as a form of harmful act, abuse or violence.
  • use this as a resource to champion or even create youth and survivor centered anti-bullying prevention and intervention strategies in schools.
